Blanket FFA Nominates Hope Heard

The 2016 Candidate for Miss Brown County Fair Association representing Blanket FFA is Hope Heard.

Hope Heard is the daughter of James and Cynthia Heard. She has a “special” autistic older brother, J.W., who has taught her so much about life, unconditional love, and happiness. According to Hope, “J.W. has blessed my life more than I could ever imagine anyone doing. I am able to do so much more than he could ever dream of or even be physically able to do. It is through me that I can offer the HOPE that he needs in order to be all that he can be.” Additionally, Hope’s family includes two other siblings along with 6 nieces and nephews. Hope is a junior at Blanket High School where she is also a dual credit student enrolled at Ranger Junior College. Hope is under the recommended graduation plan at Blanket and pursuing an associate degree in general education from Ranger College, both of which should be completed in May of 2017. Upon graduation from high school and the junior college, she plans to pursue a law degree from Baylor University.

Hope is the president of her class. Being very active in FFA, Hope serves as president of the Blanket Club. She is a member of National Honor Society where she is the secretary for this organization.  Hope has assisted in many NHS community service projects that include: trash pick-ups, responsible for organizing shirt orders for the pink-out activities, raising funds for an NHS scholarship, and volunteering within the community. One of the most closes things to her heart is her involvement in various autism awareness activities where she participates in Light It Up Blue and the campaign for spreading awareness. Hope is an active member of the youth group as First Baptist Church in Blanket. Being a member of the Blanket Travel Group, has provided Hope opportunities to travel to Washington D.C., and New York City. Hope is a published writer, having taken first place in the poetry writing contest for Six-Man Heaven Competition for 3 out of the last 4 years. She is on the yearbook staff at her school. Participating in Academic UIL during in high school, Hope has journeyed to regionals in Informative Speaking and Poetry/Prose Competitions. Hope participates in One-Act Play where she received honors at district and bi-district last year. Hope is a basketball player. Despite all of these activities, Hope is employed with Regal Movies in Heartland Mall.

Hope has participated in the Brown County Youth Fair since she was in the 3rd grade. Receiving many awards in clothing, cooking, crafts, and canning, she continues to participate in the homemaking show. She showed pigs for the first time last year and will continue showing pigs this year.  During her participation in the fair she has learned many valuable lessons that will help her throughout her life.
